Five months after Nick's death, PERF (Police Executive Research Forum) released their report on the Ashland Police Department on June 15, 2006. They list many individual factors that were pertinent to the incident with Nick Hanson, as well as larger concepts that might benefit future situations, such as community policing.

 

We summarized the PERF report in relation to Nick's death and found several areas in which APD seriously failed to follow PERF guidelines, specifically in the use of tasers.
